What is your favorite 3D CAD software?

how do those software packages compare to 3dsmax, alias, form z?

Alias and 3D Studio Max are not CAD programs, they are 3D graphics programs. Only pretty pictures
In order to use the "surfaces" from those programs for manufacturing, you would need to export the surfaces into a CAD program like SolidWorks. The one's listed above in the poll are CAD programs. I am not familiar with Form Z, so I will not comment on that one. I will say that I have heard Alias is an excellent program for surfacing, however it is very expensive.
